Vision and goals
Our vision is a thriving network of angel investors in Norway that helps startups succeed.
Our mission
We help angels invest beyond their own local area. We welcome startups and angel investors from all around the world, connect the regional angel communities in Norway to one another, and play a key role in building angel networks in the North Atlantic, across Europe and even in Latin America, Asia and Africa.
We offer a physical and a digital meeting place built for private investors, where members share investment opportunities, knowledge and experience, enabling a stronger startup ecosystem and better returns.
Since 2023 the organization NorBAN (founded 2010) and Business Angels Norway (founded 2016) have been brought together in one national organization for the Norwegian angel ecosystem. Read our history.
Four goals
We train angels. We give angels a network. We provide dealflow.
We represent angels. And we collaborate with others towards all four.
We train angels
Angel investing is demanding and most startups fail. We help investors prepare, whether they are making their first investment or their fiftieth.
- More than 500 angels trained in Norway since 2016.
-
We offer a standing introductory course:
Become an Angel Investor - twice yearly. - We provide comprehensive knowledge bases on angel investing (for members) and startup fundraising (free).
- We deliver training for banks and other ecosystem players to strengthen the angel and startup ecosystem.
We give angels a network
Angels make better decisions together. We run a meeting place for private investors, in person and online.
- Angel Mixer – monthly member meetups in Oslo.
- Startup Spotlight – quarterly dealflow pitch events.
- Other events across Norway with the regional angel groups and partners associated with NorBAN.
- Group trips and community partnerships with TechBBQ, GoWest, TechArena, TONIK and Oslo Innovation Week.
- Access to domain specific networks, knowledge and experts through our member-led Expert Initiatives.
We provide dealflow
Members get early information about interesting investment opportunities, and we provide startups with a direct route to active investors.
- Exclusive dealflow shared through member channels.
- Startups pitch directly to members at Startup Spotlight.
- Startup submissions and pitches are screened for relevance and value before they reach members.
- Opportunities from our investment partners.
- Joint startup evaluation in our programmes and Expert Initiatives, to make better decisions together.
We represent angels
We work to make it more attractive to invest in Norwegian startups, promoting the interests of angel investors towards the public and the authorities.
- Instrumental,in the work that led to Norway's tax deduction for startup investments from 1 July 2017.
- We have a seat on the board of EBAN, the European Business Angel Network - connecting you to Europe.
- The Public Policy & Regulation expert initiative follow and responds to changes in rules and laws that affect angels.
- Affiliate memberships with EBAN, SMB Norway and Abelia for members at Angel Investor level and above.
How we work
Non-profit
NorBAN is a non-profit, member-based interest organisation working to strengthen the angel ecosystem as a whole.
By angels,
for angels
NorBAN is run exclusively by people who themselves actively invest as angels and know the risks, working to support other angels doing the same.
Members decide
NorBAN as an organization does not invest and makes no investment decisions.
Members decide for themselves, individually or together with other angels.
Built on collaboration
We work to support regional angel groups, partner organizations and sister networks both in Norway and internationally.
International work
NorBAN doesn’t only focus on Norway. Through international projects and collaborations we work with startups and angel investors from across the Nordics and Europe to facilitate cross-border investment.
