NorBAN newsletter Q1 2025: angel investing course, free Slack, international activities and monthly Angel Mixer
This newsletter was sent to NorBAN’s subscribers on 24 January 2025. Dates, offers and links are as they were at the time.
Welcome to the first issue of the quarterly newsletter from NorBAN, the Norwegian association of business angels.
We are launching this newsletter to show the activities and offers that are now well under way since NorBAN was relaunched in 2023. If you are not an active member at the moment, you may want to become one again.
Either way, we hope you find this update on our work useful and that you will help us build a stronger startup ecosystem in Norway. We would be glad to see you as a member at a future Angel Mixer.
Kind regards,
NorBAN board, Svein-Magnus Sørensen, chairman
Are you curious about investing in startups, or have you wanted to start angel investing without knowing where to begin or what to keep in mind for your first investments?
Then join NorBAN’s beginners’ course in angel investing on 11 February, run together with AGP Advokater. You will learn the basics you need to start investing in startups.
A free Slack workspace for Norway's investor community
NorBAN has set up an open, free Slack workspace as a shared space for dialogue between everyone involved in early-stage investing in Norway.
The workspace is a neutral platform open to all investors in Norway; a paid NorBAN membership is not required. By offering it we hope to create a common meeting point for the investor ecosystem, so that event announcements and open discussions relevant to Norwegian investors are available to everyone, not only in closed forums.
Angel Mixer on Thursday 20 February
Since relaunching NorBAN we have held our regular members’ meeting, the Last Tuesday Angel Mixer, almost every month. It is not always on a Tuesday, but there is always a discussion topic and a chance to get to know other investors.
The meetings are open only to registered NorBAN members and their invited guests, so to take part you need to join the association.
Upcoming dates are listed in the members’ area of our website.
International activities
Beyond activities for members, NorBAN takes part in several international projects that share knowledge about early-stage investing.
Board seat at EBAN
At last autumn’s annual meeting of EBAN, the European Business Angel Network, NorBAN’s secretary general Rita Anson was elected to the EBAN board. This gives NorBAN closer access to the pan-European network, which we will use to connect the Norwegian startup and investor ecosystem more closely with Europe.
North Atlantic Business Angels Network (NABAN)
For several years NorBAN has been a major contributor to the NORA-funded NABAN project, which has among other things helped establish new business angel networks in the Faroe Islands and Iceland.
Allon i3 – Alliance for Interregional Innovation Investments
Funded by the European Commission, the project supports interregional cooperation, innovation and investment between European regions, with NorBAN as a partner supporting participants from Bulgaria, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Sicily and Denmark.
Member discount
Free guidance and 20% off a business law firm’s rates
We have agreed a partnership with AGP Advokater: all our members can get free guidance on simple questions, and 20% off legal services when a question needs more than a quick answer.
How to use this and other discounts relevant to angel investors is described on the member discounts page on norban.no.
Become a NorBAN member
We build relationships between investors for collaboration and co-investment, keep members up to date on relevant topics, and connect them with investor communities in Scandinavia and Europe.
